OH MY GOD IT BURNS – I had to start this blog out with that because that it exactly how I am feeling right now. I had a special session with my Personal Trainer Taylor yesterday (you get a free session with a membership) and she decided to cram as much possible into one session as was physically possible. Which means that I was feeling it this morning.

Along with my personal training session she also gave me some nutritional tips as well. For instance I am “supposed” to eat breakfast daily. For me breakfast is the hardest meal of the day to eat because I am often busy with babies and general living. This meal is often skipped which is the reason why I am not seeing the type of results that I want to be seeing.

So I have come to the conclusion that I MUST eat breakfast but she shared with me a special recipe that I am going to pass on to you guys. This breakfast shake is amazing. Hands down the best type of protein shake I have tasted in a really long time. The reason that I call it a shake instead of a protein smoothie is that has ice cream in it.

Now don’t hit the x button and say I am crazy for putting ice cream in a healthy protein shake breakfast but she had given me alternatives to keeping it healthy and to stop my sweet tooth. Give me a chance.

The first thing I did in making this magical shake, yes I called it the Last Unicorn because its that amazing, is to break out your Hamilton Beach Personal Single Serve Blender with Travel Lid, Purple (51131) and let it work its magic. I love this blender because it is small and personal and exactly what I need to whip up one of these protein shakes with room to spare. Plus, clean up is a breeze and with two babies it needs to be.

So after you have your Hamilton Beach Personal Single Serve Blender with Travel Lid, Purple (51131) plugged in you will want to gather your ingredients. The first ingredient is ice. Since I forgot to make some more ice last night I grabbed a bag of ice from the local DG and went to work. I added about a cup and a half, based off of personal preference.

The next thing I grabbed was my and added a full scoop on top of the ice. My trainer personally used the fudge brownie flavor of ISO 100 but I decided to try out the Birthday Cake, because who doesn’t like some birthday cake, flavored protein powder. It is crucial that you get the full amount of protein from your protein powder so do not skimp out on the scoop because it is doing great things for your body.

The next step is to add the ice cream. I know what you are saying already. “Jessica how is adding ice cream to a protein shake going to help me to reach my goals”. Normally I would say that it can’t but my PT Taylor gave me alternative ‘ice creams’ that taste just like ice cream but without all the extra stuff like calories, gmo’s, and more. I got the Arctic Zero Ice Cream, Brownie Blast, 16 Ounce (Pack of 6)  to go into my shake. This ice cream has 70 calories per serving, which is half a cup roughly, and it doesn’t contain any lactose or gmos. This ice cream is also low glycemic, and low fat,  for those people who need that option.

One of the last ingredients in this shake is a tablespoon of peanut butter. This adds some extra protein to the mix, which makes this shake even more magical.

After you added these ingredients on top of each other you will want to add some water to your blender. My trainer suggested that I use almond milk, which you can certainly do, but I didn’t have any on hand so I just used regular water. Which still tasted absolutely amazing to me so its a win win either way.

My trainer suggested that I also add a dash or two of cinnamon if I liked it, and since I do I added a couple of dashes of cinnamon.

Now blend together and enjoy.

Ingredients-

1 1/2 c. Ice

1 scoop protein powder (cake batter)

1/2 c. Arctic Zero Ice Cream (brownie blast)

1 tablespoon peanut butter

  1. Combine all ingredients.
  2. Blend.
  3. Enjoy.
